Dead
Revolution is a Finnish band that got formed
in 2000. They already released their first demo
in 2003, but since I missed that one this is
the first time I ever heard anything from them.
Playing in the doom metal/stoner vein the band
grooves itself through a nice set of "easy-listening"-music
that balances mostly between heavy rock and
traditional doom metal with some of those stoner
influences (best heard in these aforementioned
grooves).
This
EP (with nice artwork) counts five tracks and
clocks around twenty-five minutes. I'm not really
sure whether there are real close comparisons
to make, but a songs like "Silent Run"
comes pretty close to the three first Danzig
albums. And when looking closer to the stoner
influences I hear a huge resemblance between
early Spoiler (one of the best stoner bands
from The Netherlands, before they went more
into something that's more hardrock - too bad),
but I think it is more of a co-incidence - for
both bands mostly likely haven't heard about
each other. Other than this all there are some
more traditional heavy metal parts as well (best
heard in the title track "Narrow Gates")
which reminds on the most melodic works of Bruce
Dickenson or Distillery for instance. Last but
not least it has some things that sound similar
to grungy bands like Alice In Chains (vocally;
its is awesome, singer Timo sounds somewhat
alike to Layne Staley).
All
in all this is a nice EP and certainly deserves
your attention when you feel attracted to one
of the abovementioned bands or words. I would
love to hear some of the future stuff of the
band. Great band indeed!
